PAUL ON CALL: Going the distance with HDSDI?
Posted in News, News and Updates, Paul On Call
When you need to run a very long cable run for a camera or video source SDI is the way to go.
You can run SDI 300- 400 feet without a repeater. This would allow a near zero delay with your video production. SDI is great to run from your camera to the switcher, switcher to projector, or to a tv.
Serial digital interface (SDI) is a family of digital video interfaces first standardized by SMPTE (The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) in 1989. A related standard, known as high-definition serial digital interface (HD-SDI), is standardized in SMPTE 292M; this provides a nominal data rate of 1.485 Gbit/s
Pros:
- Long cable runs
• Low cost
• Solid picture
• Easily repaired
• Goes longer than HDMI
Cons:
• Need special tools to install
Here are a few that I recommend:
• RG6 Quad Shield Coax
• Klein BNC Ends
